Trujillo Peru

Trujillo is a large city on the northern coast of Peru. It’s a friendly, colonial place and one of the main economic and cultural centres of northern Peru. Very close to the city you’ll find numerous impressive archaeological sites from the Mochica and Chimú cultures, most notably the citadel of Chan Chan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trujillo has rich colonial architecture along with many archaeological and historical sites and museums. The Plaza de Armas, the main square, is one of the largest in Peru, and just beside it you’ll find Trujillo’s beautiful cathedral. The beaches near Trujillo, such as Huanchaco, are ideal – not just for the superb local seafood and the cool sea breeze, but also for adventure sports and local character. Huanchaco is a picturesque fishing cove where you can see the traditional reed boats depicted in Mochica pottery and the friezes at Chan Chan. Trujillo is often overlooked in favour of other destinations in Peru, but it has plenty to offer: several nearby ruins, a cosmopolitan yet manageable feel, and easy access to beaches and archaeological sites. It makes for a pleasant change of scene and, in many ways, a more authentic Peruvian experience.
